Poor weather stops play!

Well the bout of extremely  poor weather has stopped the shooting but not the editing and the good news is it all paid off as more work was welcomed by very happy subjects who readily ordered image discs and yet another work led to another commissioned piece which will be shot specially next week.

Some great street and character portraiture was in the mix...

on set...

Good day all round!

Had a bit of a strange day today!

Out early shooting then back to do a final tune on the 1D and the 800mm for a bit of big lens shooting that's coming up. Then lunch with a dear friend..."Long time no see"

If I can get the animals this sharp on that camera lens combo' I will be pleased.
I know its a real boring lens test subject but it gave text, detail and colour to test, plus lines.
1/500th shutter at 320 iso at f5.6, blown up to 100% or even 200% its holding the detail and I can read the smallest number off the bottom right hand side of the bottle.
This is a full frame image shot at a distance of 30 feet!

Todays model!! LOL :

This is a "Canon"....Literally

Well here I go....
I am going to use this blog to post everyday information, happenings and images just like a diary away from my professional images and business.

(As most of you regular followers will know, I am a Nikon addict, but lately to aid my teaching I have bought a Canon 1D which I am loving and also own a Lumix FZ200 which is a gem and I love teaching this alongside other bridge camera imagery and technique also. My carry around is still my trusty pocket camera Lumix DMC-FX100). The New Fuji Pro is also calling my name!!!!

Today I decided to try the sigma 800mm lens I had on my Canon 1D body. Its a Nikon fit, so I engaged the services of the Fotodiox adapter. My initial test was in my back garden and I realised just after a short time of use I had stumbled upon a great find! Sorry inserted image shot at f5.6, my mistake!

"The Stare"

I am so proud to have had another one of my images used.
I loved this shot from the day I took it and had loads of good feedback about it....I converted it to mono, but the end user requested it in colour and then eventually converted it to sepia, which I must admit I prefer out of all the versions.

Just look at that stare! I was busy focusing when the look this lioness was giving me sank in, I felt a shudder through my body....what was she actually thinking, thank god it was on the 500mm and not the 50mm!!!

A Day on the Canal

A nice leisurely stroll on the Canal at Retford on Saturday 3rd May 2014 enabled me to capture some real nice images of the narrow boat "Wild Thyme". It hails out of Shireoaks Worksop Notts.

Images with Canon 1D and the Canon 28-135mm.

Out in the field first time with the "Big Gun"

So, what happened today when I eventually got to test the Sigmonster on the 1D?

Noticeably I didn't have the best light as it remained overcast, so I tried to get a fine balance to reproduce the best images. Mounted on the Gimbal, the best I could do with a lens this big with no stabilisation was to risk 1/320 or 1/400th at f5.6 (Wide Open) at 800iso. (I would usually shoot at at least 1/800th, matching the lenses focal length as a rule of thumb).

Sat on the bank of a nearby lake, I decided we could all get a nice day out whilst I tested the "Siggy" on the 1D. With our trusty old dog transporting Toyota we made camp! General photos on this blog will be taken with Samsung S4 mobile phone. As with the two below. Plus all images, including DSLR Images on this blog will always be Low Resolution.

Then I assembled the rig

The results:
As I said a little hampered with the light and a bit of shade from the trees I decided to shoot out into the lake where the light was better. But it still meant a slower shutter than I would of liked for stability and to stop any sudden movement of my subjects.
